We are going to be quite ambitious for our next renovation project.  Finally we have decided to tackle our master bedroom. It’s a big space and will be a lovely bedroom when its finally completed. After my son’s bedroom was such a success it’s given me the renovation bug again! I want to see more and more of the house coming along. It is a wonderful feeling when you finally see rooms taking shape.  We are now determined to see the rest of the house finished.

The progress so far

When we moved in three years ago we merged two rooms into one ready to become our master bedroom but then our momentum stopped. Well if I am completely honest our funds ran out sadly! We had to have a structural engineer calculate the load for the beam between the rooms and it all got rather expensive.  I guess as these projects do, they can scale out of control if not kept in check. So, everything went on hold. It’s a pity it was a load-bearing wall as we would have saved a fortune if it hadn’t been.

However, we have decided to go all out now and manically save to start again later this year. The builder is booked so its full steam ahead!

Cleaning out the mess

It’s full of items we are waiting to take to the skip and its storing tools we need to continue the remaining work in the house. I need to invest in some decent work overalls like the ones available on Engelbert Strauss and get stuck in. The room needs to be clear come December so the builders can start without delay. I don’t want to slow them down navigating around the chaos in the room. It’s quite dangerous in there at the moment lots of trip hazards and so much dirt and dust!!!

I made sure we cleared out my son’s room before the builder arrived and it made the job a heck of a lot easier.

Once finished our master bedroom will have everything we could possibly need, so if our tweens get too much we can camp out in there and let them have the run of the rest of the house! Once the room has been boarded, skimmed and painted, I am looking forward to going bathroom shopping for our ensuite!!!

To be honest the room is more of a suite than a bedroom so I am not going to panic about how much it will cost because I know bottom line it should hopefully add value to our house if we were to ever sell, it’s all about adding usable space apparently I don’t think it will matter that we got rid of one bedroom to achieve that, after all we still have five in total!
