I have written a few posts lately about how our renovation project is progressing.  But not everything is going quite to plan. Some of the work sadly feels like a step backwards.  My eldest son had his room done first but we hadn’t realized his ceiling was in such bad shape.  Now it’s sagging and obvious to anyone!  So this blog post is all about when renovations don’t go to plan.

It’s heart breaking when a problem isn’t identified at the time the builders are in, because it means more time and money getting it right afterwards when the rest of the room looks lovely. But that ceiling is a real eye sore now and it also worries me as I wouldn’t want it to come down on my poor son! Our builder says we are okay for in the short term.  But I know it’s not a project we can put off forever.

So, it’s back to the drawing board for that room which is a bit of a shame as we had quite a lot of work completed there.  We had an en-suite removed and new flooring placed. It would have been the perfect time to replace the ceiling back then.  Now it means the whole room will get covered in dust and horse hair (old ceilings are the worse, sigh!) and be a right mess all over again!

Making Changes

Eldest is most concerned about his losing his sea adventure mural and I am hoping the new floor can be salvaged in the chaos!!! We are going to change a few things in there whilst the ceiling is down.  I want to replace his top hung roof window as I find it a real stretch reaching his current window to open and close it at the moment.

VELUX have a handle at the bottom making it easier to operate! Hopefully he will be able to reach it himself then to allow lots of fresh air in the room! He has no chance of opening the one we have currently as you operate it from the top!!!

He’s not quite a teenager yet but it doesn’t hurt to be ready.  As smelly bedrooms mean less sleep apparently and teenage boys aren’t the best with bedroom hygiene or so I have heard.

At the moment, I am feeling frustrated that we have to redo his room again.  I guess renovation work is never easy.  You will find stumbling blocks that throw you off target! But I am still determined to get this house finished once and for all. I keep reminding myself it will be worth it in the end… I love how my youngest son’s bedroom renovation turned out.
