We have some big renovation work scheduled for December.  But when the master bedroom is complete I need to think about what look would suit it best.

I have started my research now as I don’t feel like we always know what to do when it comes to showing off our home in the best light.  We probably have quite an ad-hoc approach.  Muddling along, hoping it looks okay-ish! I guess time and money is always a big restraint on what we could do.  But if you want something more seamless the guide can definitely give you a few pointers.

Interiors Inspiration

Scandinavian

I am probably leaning towards a Scandinavian design.  Although it is a big space and it might look too empty and bare if I go down that route! However, I am not one for clutter, I like to have regular clear-outs and minimal items out on display. Although the kids have other idea’s they love collecting “stuff”, toys and cheap bits of plastic seem to be everywhere! So, my aim to achieve Scandinavian interiors tends to fall rather flat at the moment.

The house is first and foremost a family home, so I don’t mind making some compromise whilst the boys have happily in the nest. I have managed to apply some of the Scandinavian principles to our living room, I just need to dot some pot plants around to complete the look! But this was only possible as the boys have their own living room to keep a few toys and games, football, balloons and magazines out on show.

Rustic

Looking at the rustic picture on their site brings me out in hives I can’t bare having that many belongings out on display, for me it needs to be in a cupboard or storage rack!  I just think how much dust it will all collect, it seems like more work for me! Although I guess in this case it does give a house a lot of personality and individuality! You are surrounded by your favourite things.

Vintage

Vintage I quite like too which surprises me really, the mix match furniture can work well if you have the eye for purchasing the right pieces. I like the pretty floral patterns and the nostalgia of better times.  Although after a while even that would probably drive me mad, as fans of vintage tend to have quite a lot of bric-a-brac.

I guess there is no point fighting my natural instincts.  I think minimalism is the interior type I feel most comfortable with. We do like comfort though so would probably add cushions and throws and candles everywhere, so it wasn’t too cold looking and stark! I would just hold off some of the other ornaments people love collecting/hordering.
