Toddler Sized Christmas time
I wrote about the Infant & Toddler Forum competition on my blog back in May and am only too happy to now share the winners with you. It had a great response with 96 practical and innovative ideas to encourage children to eat well. The judges had a tough time as the quality of the entries were so high. So well done everyone who contributed to the campaign. Now we are approaching Christmas the Infant & Toddler Forum have developed more resources to help you out with toddler sized portions and the right food to feed your children.
Moderation is essential
This time of year, can be difficult as routines are out of kilter and generally the house is full of the wrong kinds of food! Try out the Infant & Toddler Forum’s festive menu to give little ones a healthy balance. Whilst still enjoying all those treats associated with Christmas. Moderation is key and try and restrict treats for after mealtimes. Also just provide milk or water for drinks to compensate for more chocolate or sweets that might be consumed at this time.
I would agree not all young children like sauces mine do now, but it certainly took a while. If they do want to try some perhaps put it on the side and not cover all their food with it.
Head outdoors
It’s tempting over the holidays to spend more time indoors, tucked up in the warmth but toddlers need fresh air to sleep well. They can help you deliver Christmas cards and presents. There is no excuse to spending time outdoors if everyone is wrapped up warm. Do read the website play ideas if you want more guidance.
A recent survey by the Infant & Toddler forum found that alongside the difficulty serving toddler sized portions, many parents also struggle to get the right balance of food types. More than a quarter (26%) feel their child is not getting enough variety. If you lack confidence at meals times the resources on the Infant & Toddler Forum website are invaluable. That advice about the key food groups, portion sizes and tips and tricks make mealtimes effortless.
