How to be less forgetful
Since becoming a mum I have become more forgetful! I put down my keys and mobile phone and then forget where they are. Lately it has gotten slightly worse and I have forgotten a couple of appointments and meetings. Most people are quite understanding but there have been times I have been worried.
When you lose your house keys you have the additional worry and stress about the security of your property. What if they got in the wrong hands. I was looking at Perth Locksmiths and was relieved to see that most companies have emergency 24/7 services. Phew disaster averted. So at least when the keys are misplaced I don’t have to panic someone is helping themselves to my things! But if you are replacing locks make sure you pick out someone trustworthy.
If you lose your phone you can try and track it, there is a useful article here about how to find my phone. So, try not to panic there are ways and means to get things sorted! What can help is putting your keys and phone down in the same place each time. But if you do misplace them try and retrace your steps.
It’s not just security though I worry about the boys missing activities or celebrations. I have gone terrible for forgetting the football socks when packing my eldest son’s kit, I don’t know why I struggle with that part!
What can you do to stop being forgetful
Plan ahead
The night before get everything ready. Have a schedule of what you have going on each day and make sure you prepare accordingly.
Write Lists
If it helps write a list what you need for each day of your schedule. Those football socks definitely need to make it on the list! Hopefully that memory aid will prompt me to pack them.
Use your mobile phone
Just recently I have started adding reminders into my mobile phone and that has helped! Well at least until I put down my phone and can’t find it again… (you can’t have it all!).
Don’t put things off
When you say, “I will do it later!” you might well forget, so always do it there and then. I completely need to follow that advice.
Mind mapping
Visualise yourself going through your day and then see if you have forgotten anything you will need.
Get a calendar
Bit obvious really but many of us don’t use them, my mum buys me one every year and I start off quite promising in January then tail off and most of the calendar is empty (even though I have lots going on with the boys!).
If you are still worried about your memory even after trying all these tips it might be worth seeing your GP. As you get older pillboxes can help you keep track of your medication, so you do not forget to take a certain tablet on a certain day.
