I find I am usually one step behind everyone else. Usually by quite a big margin too! I was probably a year later than most bloggers joining Instagram. I only really bothered because TOTS100 decided to use it as one of their metrics for scoring. But you know what I am glad they did because I now like Instagram the most of all my social media channels. It was the push I needed but this year I am adamant I am going to be more knowledgeable about digital trends. In 2019 I want to keep up-to-date with where I need to be, so I don’t feel left behind.
The last thing you want to do is fall behind the competition. When you carve a career out of blogging it’s important to be aware of digital trends. I usually catch up eventually. Although I do think I would be so many steps further long my journey if I had adopted certain trends earlier. Take Pinterest for example, I only just realised I could make a business account. So, I now need to work at developing that. Other bloggers converted over straight away and now have a crazy amount of traffic.
So here are a few digital trends to look out for in 2019.
I don’t do this enough but apparently its all about video! Apparently, what someone see’s in a video they retain so much better than written text. It takes a lot of confidence to chat on video, so I think this is something I need to work on in 2019.
Build Your Visibility
If you have a budget it might be worth investing in your brand visibility. Click Consult can help you with this. You might need to put more thought into the keywords your using or need direction about how to optimize your website. I think I did the right thing moving over to WordPress as the Yoast plugin has helped me optimise my content. Prior to that I think I made a lot of mistakes, I have started to go back and improve old posts prior to my migration from blogger, but I still have 2000 to go!
People don’t want generic marketing messages, they want to feel like you really know them. It’s worth taking time to get to know your audience better, see what makes them tick and how you can shape your content and messages to appeal to them. You might find your audience are more receptive to images or video, see what they like and try and build on that.
Content is Still Key
I have been guilty of just thinking I need to put a post-up, anything really so my blog isn’t empty! But that isn’t the right attitude. You need to produce content that will benefit your users in some way. It helps if you know what you’re talking about and can be trusted. Keep that up and you will soon become an authority on a subject which will really help how you rank. Make sure you add enough depth to your posts.
I hate looking back at my first posts some of them were only a few words long! What was I thinking?
