Blue Lagoon Review and Competition
(Gifted) Today it’s a bit dull and overcast so we decided to get to grips with the Blue Lagoon game we were sent to review. It was quite easy to get the hang of as the instructions are self-explanatory. I love it when you can dive straight into a game!
When you first play the game, it is recommended you just do the exploration phase to get used to the game concept. This is when you start by sea. The settler tiles are two-sided, one side for sea exploration and another for land.
I played quite strategically on my first game and won. I used my tiles to block off a few islands so no one else could access them. By the second game my husband had mastered that technique and bested me by a few points!
You get points for connecting and claiming islands, having matching resources and managing to collect one of each resource type (coconut, bamboo, water and precious stone). Additionally you also get points for each statue you accumulate. You claim an island by having the most settlers on it! It can get a bit lively when your all trying to stake your claim to the island!!! Plus some sulking when islands were sectioned off so not everyone could access them!
The game ends when all the players have used all their villages and settler tiles. Or all the resources have been collected. In our case each game ended because we ran out of tiles, we never managed to collect up all the island resources. Then you move onto the settlement phase.
Settlement Phase
In the settlement phase you take away all the remaining resources, all the settler tiles and any villages that have been placed on stone circles. So basically, during the exploration phase you don’t want to be using villages on the stone circles. When the game restarts the resources will be placed back on the stone circles. To lose any of your villages would be a distinct disadvantage when it comes to exploring from your settlements.
