Week 22 of 2020: Experiments and Green Fingers
I have not felt quite as upbeat this week. As the weeks of lockdown continue to stretch ahead, I have felt my mood dip. Week 22 and I have tried to brush it off for the sake of my boys and bounce back. It probably does not help I go to bed so late, so next week I will prioritize some earlier nights and try and feel more rested. But generally, we are all good and hanging on in there!
Afternoon Tea
We had a lovely afternoon tea. My husband baked a coffee cake and a lemon cake. Whilst my youngest made some more of his lovely scones.

We made a point of setting up a table nicely with a tablecloth to try and make it more of an occasion. It’s this week’s feature picture.
Science Experiments
This week we have done a few science experiments as part of their schoolwork. It’s fun to try something a bit different.
We had Walking Rainbows.

You just need a few drops of food colouring added to separate jars with water and kitchen roll folded in half going between them. Then you can watch the colour slowly transfer up the paper. I think we probably should have added more drops of food colouring so it would have been more noticeable in this picture.
We also made a simple lava lamp.

For that you need a bottle, filled halfway with water, then add plenty of food colouring. After that fill up with an equal amount of oil. The oil stays separate because it is lighter than water. Then add an Effervescent tablet and enjoy the effect!
Gardening

As this week wasn’t quite as full on as week 21 I think that’s how we ended up spending more time in the garden. I will be the first to admit we are not very green fingered. But we decided to finally tackle the ivy on our walls. We were worried it was damaging the stonework. Ivy seems to get everywhere! The roots were so thick and embedded in the stone. It looked a lot tidier when we were finished. We had enough ivy we could have made an archway!
I have a feeling this might have kick-started the gardening bug in us. We still have so much to do. It is just finding the motivation. But with lockdown seeming to last forever, it will be nice working in the garden to keep busy and distracted.
Reviewing
During week 22 we have reviewed a fab game called The Good Life. I have a feeling we will be playing it plenty more over the coming weeks. We have also been sent some gorgeous Bronnley soap which cheered me up! The fragrances were very uplifting.
Budgie

Our budgie is such a content and confident little bird! Happy to perch on our fingers! Still not chatting but we keep encouraging him. He has come on heaps since he had him. He loves flying around the living room every evening. I don’t feel nervous watching him anymore, as he has mastered the art of flight!

I’ve started going to bed later too, around midnight rather than 10.30pm, but if I’m going back to work next week, the 6.30am alarm is going to be a killer ! I need to readjust quickly ! Lovely to see you sorting out the garden and I love the budgie pic 🙂
So sorry your mood hasn’t been great. I have noticed the same. When I go to bed late I am in a rotten mood.
Yum! The cakes and the afternoon tea looks delicious.
The science experiments sound like fun. I think we’re going to give the lava lamps a try this week.
Well done with getting the ivy off the wall. It sounds like a lot of work. x
The science experiments look fun, I may try the lava lamp for myself, ready for if and when I ever get back into working. Hope you get your sleep pattern sorted out. i find routine and a bath before bed and no screens really helps
Gosh, just look at the stonework that all that ivy has been covering! Ivy is so pesky but tearing it down is something to help you take a break from work and enjoy the outdoors!
A huge thank you for the head’s up on the lava lamp, it is such a cool experiment! Will try the walking rainbows when I have some more kitchen roll… and erm… different colours of food colouring!
Oh hun, I wish I could give you a big hug! Take deep breaths, enjoy some downtime in the glorious weather and get some sleep. You can do this, you really can!xx
I cannot wait for Budgie to actually talk!!!! Sim x
OoOo I love coffee cake. Cool experiment and lava lamp, I’ll try making it. Cute Budgie
quite right to move the ivy off the wall, it does massive damage. I am not a gardener at all, hubby does all mine.
What a fab idea, afternoon tea looking like it has been served somewhere nice. Will be much cheaper as well, I feel they are very expensive for the food you actually get
So sorry your mood hasn’t been great. I have been the same. Sending big hugs. The cakes and the afternoon tea looks delicious. I’ve never had afternoon tea before. I so need to try that lava lamp experiment with A xxx
You don’t hear of many people having budgies anymore. Our town has an aviary with budgies in, in one of the parks. Those cakes look amazing.
The science experiments look like fun. Those cakes do look delicious. Well done on your gardening progress.
We have done the walking rainbows too this week, the kids loved it. I am keeping my eye out for some white carnations at work so we can do that colour experiment too
I love the photo of your budgie – I had one when I was very little. We’ve done the walking rainbows experiment before and it’s a fun one. I love the sound of the homemade lava lamp – will have to give that one a go. The afternoon tea looks amazing. #project366
I’ve seen a lot of people with afternoon teas and lava lamps, maybe they are a new lockdown craze! #project366
I also need to go to bed earlier, and not watch anything late either so I can sleep better.
Your budgie is very cute and colourful. Love the afternoon tea selection – lovely cakes and bakes! The lava lamp sounds great fun. We must also try to do that experiment with the food dye and paper towels.
I am with you on the mood dip! Last couple of weeks have been hard.
Your budgie is adorable…makes me want to get another one.
I keep meaning to make a lava lamp with the youngest. Looks fun.
I am struggling at the moment if I am honest too. I think its just the fact that there is just so much more to come even with the easing. We have been focusing on our garden a lot its helped to have a project although the rest of the house has been ignored!
