Clean Sleeping: How To Sleep Better Naturally (£12.99)

Sleep problems are a common concern for many. This invaluable book by Lisa Helmanis has lots of practical advice to help you sleep better. The main issue with modern day life is that we want to cram in as much excitement as possible. But that switched on life comes at a cost. Sleep is not always prioritised in our hectic lifestyles.

We always want to squeeze a bit more time out of our days. As a parent I think I am guilty of doing this. When I finally get to bed, I want my time to Netflix and chill regardless of the lateness of the hour. I really needed to read this book! My body is telling me it requires rest, but my mind refuses to oblige.

I learnt how “Sugar can play havoc with our sleeping patterns” – this is so me right now. I am keeping myself cheerful in lockdown eating far too many treats. It really is not doing me any favours when it comes to the quality of sleep I am having.

I never knew that lettuce has a reputation for promoting healthy sleep. Surprisingly, it has low concentrations of an opium-related substance! Sleep is very restorative however in lockdown you may feel anxious and not be sleeping as well as usual. This book is a real asset for any sleep related issues.  It has ideas for soothing drinks, the best food to eat before bedtime, guidance on how to make a sleep haven and relaxation methods you can try, plus plenty more.

The Easy Life (£14.99)

I do not seem to have much free time in lockdown. Boredom has not set in as such, I do not feel I have enough time to be bored. Home schooling, sorting the house, and completing the occasional bit of blog work (much less than usual but I guess its to be expected in a pandemic!) keeps me busy. So, a book that covers quick ways to clean and manage your home ticks lots of boxes for me. The author Lynsey Crombie is the UK’s most watched cleaning expert on TV, so you are in good hands with her helpful tips and guidance.

The book includes things like a cleaning caddy checklist, the five-minute challenge (quick things you can do to refresh each room of your house) and advice for each season. I did not realize its advisable to leave your washing machine door open for 30 minutes after a wash to let it dry out! Mine has got quite whiffy lately so I will be following this gem from now on! I was pleasantly surprised by how much valuable information has been squeezed into this book!

Sort Your Sh*t Out (11.99)

Sort your sh*t out

With many of us at home for longer in lockdown now is the time get ourselves organised. This informative book by Caroline Jones is full of simple steps for a tidy home, mind, and life. I could not wait to get started on this title. I think we have far too much clutter in our house. It drags me down at times. I do not feel I can see past it.

“Happiness is finding the perfect balance between too little and too much” – so with this book to guide me I have started going through my belongings. If it does not add value off it goes, I am learning with the book’s help to reduce my emotional attachment to possessions.  Apparently excess clutter can cause depression and fatigue. So, find your inspiration in this book and make a start, you will be so glad you did. It is as if Caroline can read my mind! Blankets in the living room are a bugbear of mine. I wish I had invested in a footstool with storage now as they would have been perfect stored away in there.

There are lots of practical exercises you can complete like visualizing where you want your life to be, then a section for writing what is holding you back. Let go of grudges, learn to stop comparing your life with others and try to be more optimistic. It is all about ditching negative energy and freeing your mind. It is such a thought-provoking read; I liked the section on friendships. I think because of distance one of my dearest friendships has faltered but I just need to nurture it more. Give it the time it deserves, doing more to maintain it.
