Helping Your Child Prepare for Exams

It would be difficult to find a child that enjoys exams. But, regrettably, they are an inevitable part of school life. Parents can help ease the pressure of exams and revision. It is possible to encourage children to cope with it in a productive way, as explored below by a private prep school in West London. There are a variety of things you can do to help your child prepare for exams! Fortunately you don’t have to be a science whizz or a maths genius in order to help them learn!

Keep Optimistic

During exam period, emotions are high, so it’s important for students to have a positive home environment to lift their spirits. With that said, try and have an optimistic attitude around your child. Praise them when you see them working hard and remind them that you will be proud of them no matter what grades they receive, as long as they try their best.

Make Sure They Get Enough Sleep

Encourage your child to get plenty of rest and recuperation and take breaks from revision so that they don’t suffer with eye strain or headaches. Little and often is the best motto when it comes to revision. They’ll need to get a minimum of 8 hours of sleep a night, a nutritious, balanced diet and plenty of water so that they are able to concentrate and avoid getting sick. You could consider a supplement with Omega-6 like EQUAZEN which supports brain function.

Work Out A Revision Timetable

A great way to help your child prepare for their exams is to put together a revision timetable a few months in advance. In fact, the earlier you can do this, the more ‘ready’ they will feel. Have a think about some of the subject areas that could do with a little more work and add in some extra time into the timetable for those. After all, there’s no point in your child spending hours on end revising for a subject they’re already great at when they could be using that time to focus on a topic they’re struggling with. You could even consider hiring a private tutor for those subjects if you feel this is necessary, just to give your child that little bit of extra support. Schools often have revision clubs at lunch time or after hours, which could also be an option.

Provide Adequate Resources

prepare for exams

Make sure your child has all of the appropriate books and other equipment to help them revise effectively. You may need to ask the teachers for some suggestions on revision guides etc, but it will be worth it if it helps your child with their understanding. They’ll also need a quiet place to study that is free from distractions.
