Week 27 of 2020: Secret Messages and Ice Creams
This week has had dreadful weather, so we have not got out on any big walks like last week more the pity. I think the days are harder to fill if we can’t spend a lot of time outdoors. We are still doing some home-schooling which keeps us occupied part of the day. But I think a lot of the momentum is lost now. I know how teachers feel in as they approach the end of term.
Secret Messages
This week my youngest tried secret messages with lemon juice. It’s a simple activity but quite fun. You just use the juice to spell out your message using a cotton bud. Then you wait for it to dry. After it has dried the teacher said use a hair dryer to reveal what it says!

Well that didn’t work out for us, so I looked online and someone used a lighter to show the secret messages! But then we managed to set fire to his first attempt!!! We had to hastily blow it out! He wrote his message again and this time he warmed it over a candle (holding it far enough away) and the words gradually revealed themselves. Well worth trying with your children just be more careful than us.

Catch Up
We had another catch up with a friend, we went around at 2pm but had such a lovely time we stayed until later in the evening. The boys played swing ball and darts, and kicked a ball around outside. My friend makes the most amazing brownies too, so I appreciated that with a cuppa! It was a real boost for both our families spending that time together. My two can’t wait for us to schedule the next one.

Ice Creams

This week we have had a few more ice creams! We have timed breaks in the rain to go and get them. I think everywhere in Wales will get much busier from Monday when people can visit for day trips. So, it was nice to beat the queues.
Blogging
We have had a couple of reviews this week. I thought The Real Coco Chanel was a fascinating read, Coco was such an inspirational lady achieving so much after a tough childhood. My husband also made soup and a smoothie for an upcoming blog collaboration. I am not sure he likes it when I keep him so busy at the weekend! But needs must.

It is nice to be able to see people a bit more isn’t it? Glad you managed to get your ice creams in before the rush.
Ooh those ice creams look good. We’ve not been out to go anywhere that sells them. Nice to be able to see friends. We’ve still not been anywhere, although my SIL’s having everyone over in a couple of weeks for the MIL’s birthday. (will be more than 2 households and more than people allowed, but we’re on the same ‘site’ as the MIL so we’re classes as one household really. Will be nice to have some normality given we’ve not been out other than to the shop/drs.
I’m glad you got to see your friend and have a wonderful catch up! Oooh that ice cream looks good too!
The weather has been rubbish and stopped us going out as much too. The secret messages look like fun.
I’m glad you got to see your friends. It is nice to have a catch up. x
poor hubby being kept busy….lol
Nice to be getting the children back to some semblance of normal with meet ups, a great pick me up for them.
Envy ice cream people as these do not come dairy free, though I am ever hopeful more places will start to cater for the vegan ice cream eater
I find it much harder too if we can’t get outdoors as much due to the weather. Secret letter writing in lemon juice sounds fun but oops to setting the first attempt on fire. That ice-cream looks amazing! #project366
It is nice to be able to see people a bit more, isn’t it? We haven’t done much. Glad you managed to get your ice creams in before the rush. They look fab x
Ohhhhh! Make sure there is ice cream left for me! 🙂
Honestly… lockdown has been so much more fun when the sun is shining! At the start, the weather was glorious and despite not knowing what was going on, people were upbeat. Now I can definitely say I am just thoroughly bored! Simple trips out now require military style planning a week in advance… 🙁
It sounds like you had a fun week though and got out to see people which is ever so important! Nicely done on using a candle to reveal the message after the little incident… however, did he really write that message?! 😉 Sim x
Oh that ice cream looks delicious! It’s lovely to be able to have these spontaneous treats. In the lockdown we were talking of how much we miss Greggs and Krispy Kreme donuts. Well, we did get a few bits of Greggs last week, though the donuts will have to wait until we dare to catch a bus to Oxford.
The lemon juice writing sounds great fun! and lol @ setting fire to it, that’s what I would do most likely too.
Wow, those ice creams look delicious ! Love the lemon juice writing project and I have to admit, I did giggle at you setting fire to the first one. Did you tell the teacher? I bet she’d give you extra marks for effort ! lol. Lovely to see you catching up with friends too.
Those ice creams look amazing and how lovely that the kids got to see some friends. My son has done a couple of walks with his and its made a real difference
My kids have discovered swing ball, the 30 year old set at my parents’ when we were finally allowed to visit! Great ice creams! #project366
Secret messages sound cool. This technique reminds me of the same technique used in the movie National Treasure. I used to have an invisible marker which had a UV light on the back of it for reading the secret message. Oh a lighter was used? Interesting. OoOoOo Swwingball, brownies and ice cream. Exciting!
Oh that lemon juice message is something I should try with my youngest. she would love it!
That ice cream looks sooo good!
Sounds like you had a great afternoon with friends. Love the idea of the lemon juice message, I will be the same though and inadvertently set it a light! Hope you have enjoyed some more ice creams
