Week 47 of 2020: House Renovations
This week we have had house renovations back on our mind. I think its because we are spending so much more time at home. We had a few workmen come over to give us quotes. It would be nice to wrestle the house into shape.
We still have so much to do. But it’s disheartening that a lot of the exterior work we did previously doesn’t seem to have worked, it’s not weatherproofed at all. With each downpour more damp patches appear. Plus, the weather is too awful to tackle the exterior again just yet, so in the meantime we are hoping to tick off some other jobs instead. Just so we don’t lose faith in the house renovations.
House Renovations: Electrical Work
I am quite excited that the electrician who came over this week to give us a quote for a job starts next week. He is booked in for two days’ work to try and get rid of some unwanted elements in our property. You see our house used to be a commercial building. Therefore, it has lots of things we don’t need that don’t make it look quite so homely. Goodbye emergency lighting and over the top fire alarm system! We have lots of these break glass units to set off the alarm dotted around! Ignore the dust on it, it will be gone soon so I didn’t see the point of giving it a clean.

We are also having spotlights added in the kitchen instead of the bulkiest light fittings I have ever seen… Plus they are really hard to get into. So our kitchen only has one working light at the moment as all the other bulbs have gradually run out since we moved in! So it was getting to the point we change the light fittings OR get used to cooking in the dark. I know its not really the done thing to put any old pictures up on your blog but I do want to document some of the house renovations journey here, including these eyesore lights!

Hopefully the house will look a little bit more attractive for some electrical TLC. But that’s only the start plenty more is planned in other areas, but I will update you as it happens.
Blog Work
I managed to finish my Christmas gift guides this week. It was only the Christmas gift guide for children outstanding but that seemed to be my biggest one. So, it’s was a very nice feeling knowing I am all caught up now. Naturally I did let out a little cheer! But I do need to remember I have one thing left to add when it arrives. I am waiting on some fab Christmas pyjamas for the whole family. I might just slot them in or give them their own post. We shall see how I feel when they get here.
Other blog posts this week were The Best Type of Home to Suit Your Needs and Allergies On The Rise In The UK: Why Is It Happening? so overall I think its been a relatively quiet week. My categories seem to be in order now. But I haven’t found the energy to face tags yet after all.
Lunch With A Friend

I caught up with a friend this week for lunch which was a lovely treat. I had macaroni cheese with bacon lardons and garlic bread, followed by Raspberry Ripple sponge cake. The food and the company were delightful, and I really appreciated that chance to socialise.

Family Time
We then caught up with my brother at the weekend. The boys all got stuck into the Escape Room game I mentioned in my Christmas gift guide for men. It was nice to see them all working together and focused looks of concentration on their faces.

They were working on Panic On The Titanic and it was very tricky. I decided just to take photos as my brain couldn’t cope with Morse code puzzles. However, they all enjoyed it and are looking forward on working on the next theme together. They still have Dawn Of The Zombies and Alice In Wonderland left. But they are meant to be harder again! So good luck boys, I think I will be leaving you to it like this time!
My brother also surprised the boys with a big tub of jellybeans each which was rather kind of him.

Walk
At the weekend I dragged the boys out for a long walk (I think I was inspired by Sim’s walks this week!) so we could reach our step goal and some more for the day. They had a bit of a grumble about having to exercise. But we did a cake run whilst out and stocked up with cherry cake, flapjacks, and shortbread from the little farm shop so that eased their complaints. Plus, they enjoyed seeing the friendly horses again. I just wish we had remembered to bring them a carrot each.

How frustrating about the water still finding its way in after all your efforts! It will be worth it in the end, but it must seem like slow going. Nice to see life in Wales is carrying on as normal – I don’t think our lockdown is working as well.
Oh no! So sorry you are being bothered by damp. I hope you get your house sorted soon. Good luck with the work that you have planned.
Well done for getting your Christmas blog work finished.
It looks like all the boys are taking the Escape Room game seriously. x
What was your house used for before it became your home? Hopefully the electrical work will be straight forward and completed soon. Panic on the Titanic sounds fun, ooh Jelly beans, my absolute favourite
Oh no, what a shame that the exterior work didn’t work and isn’t weatherproof. Hope you can manage to fix that when the weather improves again. Good luck with the renovations and hope the electrical work went well this week. Looks like that was a lovely lunch with your friend. Lovely to get out for a walk and stock up at the farm shop. #project366
a great idea to log your renovations, does make it good to look back on. Sounds an interesting project but also frustrating.
Glad they all bonded over the game. Ooh I love those jelly beans.
Exercise and cake go well together
Hope the electrical work went well and you are now commercial fire alarm free. Sounds like you have a lot of plans. Glad you have managed to finish the Christmas posts I know from experience that it can get quite stressful. The escape room sounds like a great game.
What an awesome treat on the walk though! It makes the slog of getting out in the colder weather so much more worth it when you know you can pick up cake and yummy treats! The horse too! 🙂 🙂 Awww absolutely gorgeous!
Your renovations will be ace when they are finished, don’t get disheartened, you will get there. You are spurring me on, I might actualy get round to painting over Christmas!
Nicely done on the Gift Guide, that sense of relief when it is all finished and published is awesome!
I’m excited about playing the Escape Room game… I did an actual one once, it was a first date… my competitive streak shone through as I really did just want to escape… there was far too much irony for my liking! 😉
That mac cheese with bacon lardons looks ace, I LOVE bacon lardons – currently 6 packs in my fridge as they are my go to on Keto! Hope you are all having a lovely week! Sim x
I had a go at an escape room game and was useless! Raspberry ripple cake sounds soooo good! We have weird ceiling lights in our lounge that I would love to change… #project366
Aww I hope the exterior work gets done soon. Lovely pony. Hmm didn’t know your house used to be a commercial building, those fire alarm systems must be everywhere. Yay, you deserve a cheer. Feels nice to meet up with friends, the cake looks delicious. Morse code puzzles? The game sounds interesting.
Oooh jelly beans, I love them and haven’t had any for ages – maybe I should buy myself some for Christmas ! It’s great that you’re getting all the work done in your house – I have so much left to do in my house too, so I’m hoping to catch up on some jobs over Christmas. The escape game sounds fun but I don’t blame you for escaping – sounds like hard work ! lol
