Week 50 of 2020: Baking Competition
We have had a busy few days. Both my boys had Christmas themed cakes to make for a school baking competition. You can see what they made below.
Christmas Tree Sponge

Baking competition entry by my eldest.
Gingerbread Man Sponge

Baking competition entry by my youngest.
It’s back to remote learning in secondary schools in Wales next week. So I will have a bit more to juggle next week now. Although perhaps I can train the boys to do the workmen coffees! There might be a silver lining after all…
Oh, So Cold!
It’s also been a VERY cold week in our house. I don’t like to turn on the heating in case it makes the pipes too hot for the plumber to handle. So, it is nice to snuggle in bed with a blanket when the workmen go home. I think my dog feels exactly the same. She really loves her home comforts and is a bit of a pampered pooch, as you can see in my feature picture and below.

The bathroom should be finished this week, so hopefully I will have a photo to share in the next weekly update. It’s taken a bit longer as I keep getting them to do lots of other jobs whilst they are here, like putting in a new kitchen tap. Although I am not sure if its my wisest move planning renovation work in winter. After this week finishes, we move on to plastering the landing and I can’t risk the house being too hot then either. Otherwise, the new plaster might dry too fast and crack. Fortunately the Shinesty pyjamas we were sent are very warm and cosy, so I will make sure I put them on as soon as the workmen leave.
Nordic Gnomes
We finished decorating the Nordic Gnomes this week. We completed the base by adding some cardboard trees and natural dried moss. I used the Cosmic Shimmer Fluffy Stuff I mentioned in week 49 dabbed onto my trees. I loved the coated in snow effect. Although my boys used pens instead and they looked great too.
The gnomes look fab fully completed and out on display!

Blogging
This week another competition went live, this time it was for Jurassic World Evolution. I also have posts about hand sanitizer, tips on how to de-stress and Christmas post-divorce live if you fancy checking out any of those. I still need to get a board game competition written up. But it might be an evening job now the boys are off next week!
Christmas Tyres

When I was out and about, I noticed this fab tyre snowman. I had to make sure I took a picture to share on here. This year there isn’t any Christmas events locally. Sadly no late-night shopping with mulled wine and roasting chestnuts. So, it’s nice to see more people making an extra effort with their own decorations. I would love to buy a few more for outside our house. But with the renovation work the budget is quite tight this year. I received a lovely picture of the lights Sim has been putting up at home.
Tasty Meal

I had a lovely meal out to celebrate my birthday. The food was very tasty and a huge portion. Perhaps I was a bit ambitious having three courses.

The cakes look fab! Very festive.
hehehe! Your dog does look like she loves her home comforts.
The gnome looks very cute. x
Great cakes. That snowman tyre display is brilliant. I was only saying to N we should have stolen one of the tyres offf the farm to make a wreath one with a tyre.

OhI love the tyre snowman. We have brought a few more lights this year for outside under requests from the boys. The cakes look amazing! They did a great job. Sounds like a lovely meal out for your birthday – happy belated birthday. Hope the juggling act went okay.
Ooh those Christmas-themed cakes both look amazing – well done to your boys. Lovely photos of your dog snuggled up on her blankets. Love the Nordic gnome and the tyre snowman. Hope the renovation work is going well and you’re not getting too cold while it is going on. #project366
Amazing cakes: fab designs! Love the tyre snowman #project366
Great to hear that the renovation work is underway – it’s a shame you can’t put the heating on though, brr ! I love the cakes – they both look amazing ! The snowman in tyres is very cool too and I’m in love with your Nordic gnomes, they’re so cool ! xx
Awww the snowman made out of tyres is awesome! What a fabulous way to upcycle and creative something fabulous! Though, it is all about those cakes! There is no way I could judge them at all, they are both ace and quite frankly, I could happily have eaten them both and fully enjoyed! 😉
I’m with the dog, it’s all about snuggling up in this weather and not being able to put your heating on due to workman is a pain. I wonder if you did put it on, if they would work quicker?! 😉 That looks like a lovely birthday meal out and glad you got to enjoy the day! 🙂 Sim x
