Week 6 of 2021: It’s half Term!
I am pleased half term is finally here. But I am scared its going to go by too fast. I am hoping to feel revived after the break. In reality it will probably be harder to dive straight back into home-schooling. On the plus side the decorating might get finished! My husband has been hard at work today, my youngest also gave him a helping hand.
It’s going to be awhile before we can save up for a carpet but its still nice seeing the brighter walls. Finally, the upstairs of the house is taking shape, seven years after we moved in! It’s a shame though we have had to do so much sanding to get it looking how we like. I wish we had used our regular plasterer now.
I have continued with washing down the doors and any remaining skirting from plastering. It takes forever especially with the blue grit, that stuff really sticks! I don’t remember there being this much mess which we had plasterers in before. Half term this year seems quite a bit different to last years when we were in Florida enjoying air boat rides, sunshine and ice creams.
Mug Cake
This week the boys made Biscoff Mug Cakes. They smelt lovely! You only need four tablespoons of flour, a quarter of a tablespoon of baking powder, four tablespoons of milk and three tablespoons of Biscoff spread! Then pop it in the microwave for just under 2 minutes. Then add a bit more Biscoff spread to melt on top and sprinkle one of the biscuits for decoration. You can see their mug cake in the feature picture.
We have plans to make lots more mug cakes over the next few days. Apparently, you can make even make a mug cake with just four crushed Oreos and milk! So, I have some in to give it a whirl, as I am intrigued how that would work out.
Blogging
This week I gave you a chance to win a So Sand DIY Magic Sand Studio and wrote a post about how to keep busy when your blog goes quiet. There are lots of other things you can be doing behind the scenes when you don’t have any blog collaborations to work on. Over half term I have some board games to review so hopefully that blog post will be live by next weeks update.
Chinese New Year
We decided to get a Chinese takeout to celebrate. I had salt and pepper chicken and it was lovely! We hadn’t planned on an extra takeout this week; I need to watch the pennies after so much renovation work in the house. But food is something that cheers the boys up. There isn’t much else we can do at the moment. Even walks are starting to wear a bit thin in the cold blustery weather. Everyone is preferring to snuggle in the warmth.
Valentines
The boys were sent a lovely present from their Aunty. Happy post like that always cheers them up. I think we have been getting a bit fed up. Lockdown seems to be going on forever.
For Valentines, my husband and I had a lovely takeout, steak, green beans with bacon, macaroni cheese and pulled pork and garlic bread. It was all very tasty. Sadly, it got devoured before I could take a decent picture. So, you will just have to imagine it instead.
Gingerbread Men Kits
I bought some Gingerbread Men Kits for the boys this week just to give them a break from their screens. Tesco even had chocolate and salted caramel writing pens, so I had to add them too as they seemed a bit more of a novelty. We usually only have the coloured writing pens so I am sure they will appreciate the extra flavour!

Biscoff mug cakes sound amazing – I definitely have to give them a try. Lovely for the boys to get a Valentine’s Day gift and the Chinese takeaway and Valentine’s Day takeaway both sounded very yummy. The decorating looks like it’s coming along nicely – hope it gets finished soon. #project365
I sent our grandchild a valentines gift, son thinks I’m weird, but hey ho! I used to love doing the gingerbread men with the kids and we’d often decorate pre made cup cakes, that was a lot of fun also and without most of the mess. I’ve never tried a microwave cake
I love a mug cake, will be interesting to see how the oreo one goes. I find it so hard to keep N off the xbox or laptop especially when I’m working. Hope the house work is finished soonl.
Half term is disappearing way too fast! I have tried mug cakes a few times and microwave bread too for a quick snack, yum! #project365
Food is the only thing which seems to keep us going too! Yay for lovely painted walls. It is definitely a labour of love doing a place up. I have not tired a mug cake before must keep this one up my sleeve to keep the kids entertained.

Biscoff mug cakes look lovely. My younger one loves Biscoff spread, so these cakes would be a big hit with him too. You’ve made a great progress with the painting. Hope you had a relaxing midterm break, it’s gone quickly.
