How To Celebrate St Patrick’s Day At Home

On Wednesday the 17th of March its St Patrick’s Day, a cultural and religious celebration that usually involves dressing in green and heading out on a pub crawl with copious pints of Guinness. But with pubs closed for both indoor and outdoor customers, your usual go-to celebrations are off limits. So instead, you have to celebrate St Patrick’s Day at home. I wanted to give you a few suggestions to help you make a festive occasion out of it even stuck at home.

Drink Green Beer

Why not make green beer to make the most of the festivities? Its very simple; you just add a little green food dye to your usual brand of beer. Although be warned if you overdo the dye its not only your beer that will turn green! Your tongue will most likely be a more vibrant colour too!

Invest In a Proper Beer Stein

Drinking your green beer from a German beer stein will make the day feel even more special. If you decide to drink in your garden the lid will keep the bugs out of your beverage, too. Beer steins are designed to help people get more enjoyment out of their beer and come in an array of beautiful styles to choose one that suits you. Traditionally when the lid is open it means you are in need of a top-up! So, when you’re celebrating St Patrick’s Day at home you can give your partner a subtle hint your drink needs refreshing.

Shamrocks

In Ireland, all shamrocks are lucky not just the four-leaf clover, so why not work with that theme. After the year we have had I think we all could do with an extra big dose of luck! So, you can make shamrock bunting easily enough, and draft in the children to help. Or why not try these cheesy shamrock biscuits. If you have a sweet tooth you could try iced biscuits instead. Either way, they can help soak up the alcohol, so you have a clearer head the next day!

Wear Something Green

The whole idea is that you wear green so mischievous leprechauns cannot see you! Legend says they would pinch people not wearing green. The popularity of the colour green associated with St Patrick’s Day also goes back to the shamrock. So, you really cannot celebrate St Patrick’s Day at home without featuring some element of green in your attire. Seeing as you’re stuck at home this year you could even just get some shamrock lounge wear; you might as well be comfortable for the occasion! Why not get everyone in the family involved. Seeing as your captive audience is a lot smaller this year, the pets could get involved too and your children of course.

Play Irish Music

Why not make up a playlist of Irish music to enjoy on the day. It will help you create more of a pub atmosphere at home. Filling the house with music and maybe learning a traditional Irish jig will transport you back to those lively pub crawl days we all miss! Admiring your shamrock bunting, sipping green beer and listening to those Irish tunes, you might soon realize you have made the best of festivities without dealing with crowds, queues or overpriced beer. So, celebrating St Patrick’s Day at home is something to be grateful for this year.

Virtual Party Ideas

If Patrick’s Day is usually a celebration you make the most of with friends, why not organise a virtual party. You could book a virtual cocktail making session as I did with Moonpig. But you could keep all the drinks Irish themed. Check out these Irish cocktail ideas for inspiration. I love the sound of the Pot of Gold just because it makes the most of edible gold flakes. If you’re not big drinkers but just enjoy getting together why not plan an Irish quiz or a watch along for an Irish film through Netflix. You don’t have to celebrate St Patricks Day without your buddies even though we are locked inside our homes.
