Week 48: Gearing up for Christmas
After such a wonderful but hectic weekend away at the Manchester Christmas markets, this week has been much slower paced. My asthma hasn’t been at all good, so I have tried to stay indoors a bit more, out of the cold. I am steaming, using all my inhalers and have been dosed up with steroids and antibiotics but I am still struggling to breathe. However, I still managed to tick off a couple of things on my to do list.
Christmas Tree
The Christmas tree is up! The feature picture is one of my favourite Christmas decorations, a gingerbread house. The tree looks lovely in our new snug! It’s actually our dining room, but as the boys have their own living rooms and we didn’t we have improvised and squeezed a TV and sofa in the room too! Eventually I hope to make our kitchen a bit bigger so it can accommodate the dining table freeing up more space. Every evening the log burner is keeping us toasty and now with the twinkling lights of the tree I feel a bit more festive. I just need my asthma to get better for the countdown to Christmas.
This year we are not moving Eddie our Elf. It feels such a blessing just to chuck the little fellow on the tree and not have any drama or elf antics to worry about.

Late Night Shopping
I did brave the cold one evening for the late night shopping in our local town. A few of the usual businesses were closed though which was a shame. I don’t know if that’s because of more COVID cases in the area or they don’t feel like its worth it for the amount of trade. We did however have some gorgeous fresh sausage rolls and scotch eggs, stock up on homemade chutneys and I bought some Christmas pudding fudge which I can’t wait to try!
Baking

At the weekend my eldest and I made some cakes. I need to ease off the sugar, but I can’t help myself at the moment. The energy boost is keeping me going when I don’t feel quite myself with my asthma. Usually, it’s very well controlled so its been a shock struggling for a while now.
Blogging
A few posts have gone live this week, so if your want to improve your child’s communication skills or support your child’s mental health do go and have a read.
Christmas Shopping
I went Christmas shopping with my mum this week. I managed to tuck into my second Christmas dinner of the season, followed by bread and butter pudding with custard. As you can tell I do like my comfort food, especially when I am under the weather! I think it helps fortify me. I wonder how many Christmas dinners I will manage before we get to the 25th!

Also I have even cracked open the metatone tonic something one of my friend swears by! I thought it can’t hurt to try and restore my vitality that way!
I think that pretty much sums up my week.

Sorry to hear that you’re struggling with asthma, hope, you can take it under control soon. Love your gingerbread house decoration. We haven’t put up our tree yet, maybe this week. Well done on having two Christmas dinners already. 🙂 I haven’t tried the tonic your friend recommends, would be curious to know about it, so off to google.
Sorry to hear you have been struggling with your asthma.
Love the gingerbread ornament. I always thought it must be tiring having to deal with the elf every day!
Oh no! I hope you feel better soon.
Your tree is looking fab, it looks like the elf is enjoying it.
Those cupcakes look so good and I am very jealous of the Christmas dinner, I’ve not had one yet. x
I really hope you will feel better soon.
I’ve been to the Christmas market in Manchester, but only where the food stalls are. I was keen on trying the vegan ones (there are 2), so I had a lot to eat that evening. It was delicious. 🙂
Sorry that you’ve been struggling with your asthma and hope you feel better again soon. I love that gingerbread house decoration. How lovely to have had two Christmas dinners so far! I love having a few Christmas dinners in the run-up to Christmas too! #project365
A non-moving elf is bliss. I’d told my son that elves don’t visit Secondary school children but he pleaded so Father Christmas sent him a letter explaining that he could visit but he wouldn’t be getting up to much! #365
I’m done with Christmas shopping, I get irritated that our local shops don’t open till 9.30-10am most days. The poor elf stuck on the tree but much less stress no doubt
Sorry to hear about your struggles with asthma, I am jealous of your elf. It is one tradition which I wish we hadn’t started but the boys do love coming down to see what they have been up to! What a lovely decoration, hope you feel better this week.
I love seeing all the pics of the elf but am so glad I never started it myself! I think a single position is much more sustainable 🙂 #project365
