What To Do If Lack Of Sleep Is Impacting Your Life

Lack of sleep is a nightmare. In the beginning stages of having a baby it’s just life because when they are up, you are up. But, if you are having trouble sleeping when the baby is asleep, or if your kids are a little older and you are having trouble sleeping at all, this is not good for you. It’s not healthy and your body can’t sustain this kind of thing for long. In this article, we’re going to be taking a look at some of the things that you should be doing if a lack of sleep is impacting your life. Keep reading down below if you would like to find out more.

Set A Bedtime Routine

First, we recommend that you set a bedtime routine. The reason for this is that your brain will come to understand that when you do all of these things together and in an order, that it’s time for sleep. It will then start to associate this routine with going to sleep, and eventually it will start to come easier. This works for a lot of people but does not work for everyone, so don’t think that it’s a magical miracle cure for not being able to sleep, because it isn’t.

An example of a bedtime routine would be to wash your face, brush your teeth, have some water, get dressed for bed and then get into bed and go to sleep. There are no distractions here, just into bed and shut your eyes until you fall asleep.

Remove Electronics From The Room

We also recommend that you try to remove all of the electronics from the room. Blue light which is emitted from various electronic devices can impact the way that your brain is functioning. For example, it can keep you awake by activating your brain when it should be shutting down slightly so that you can go to sleep. If you remove these devices from the room, then you might find that you are able to find sleep easier.

As well as this, the constant buzzing from your phone at night is going to keep you awake. Even if you have it on silent, the need to check it constantly to see if someone has messaged is going to be real, and this could be what’s keeping you up at night. If it’s not there, you can’t get it and you will get over it.

Get Some Help

The final thing that we recommend is going to get some help. If you go and speak to a doctor, they might refer you to a sleep specialist or a neurologist/neurosurgeon, maybe both just to check that everything is okay. If it is, then a sleep specialist should be able to help you onto the right track, and hopefully get you seven hours. You need them as a parent, every minute of sleep is precious!

Hopefully, you have found this article helpful, and now see some of the things that you are going to need to do if lack of sleep is impacting your life. It’s not the easiest thing to deal with, especially when you have little ones to look after which is why it’s so important that you are taking action. We wish you the very best of luck and hope that you manage to sleep better soon.
