How To Cheer Yourself Up In January
January is a tough month. You have the post-Christmas slump, and your finances are feeling the pinch from the festivities. Plus, like me you are probably panicking about the cost of heating your home as the weather worsens. The mornings are so cold and miserable, its hard to feel enthusiastic about anything. To top it all off today is Blue Monday thought to be the most depressing day of the year. So, with that in mind how can you cheer yourself up and start to feel better.
I have included some fail-proof ideas below. Long term stress is linked to depression so aim to do activities that reduce that.
Pamper Yourself

Self-care is so important, so spend a bit of time pampering yourself. Buy a new shower oil to help you relax and unwind. I always have a sense of excitement trying new products. Don’t worry if you have sensitive skin either as La Roche-Posay has you covered. Then enjoy the benefits of the soothing effect of warm water and getting clean and fresh. Pampering yourself can reduce your stress hormone and boost your mood, making you feel more peaceful and content.
Try Essential Oils For Wellness
Aromatherapy can really help lift your mood. Try the de-stress range from Scentered or pick up some essential oils known to boost your energy so you can cope with whatever January throws at you! I am definitely flagging after returning from the Christmas break. Essential oils like peppermint and sweet orange would reduce fatigue and improve your stamina. Whilst lemon oil is very uplifting.
Exercise

Exercising boosts your well being. You really feel like you can tackle anything when your body starts releasing endorphins. When I was going through a tough patch in my relationship, I joined the local gym. It was amazing how much better I started to feel. You get a positive feeling that gives you a better outlook on life.
Cut Out Caffeine
If you are feeling uneasy this month, try cutting out caffeine. Too much caffeine is linked to anxiety and let’s be honest January is tough enough without throwing that into the mix. Caffeine can speed up your heartbeat so perhaps try going decaf if you don’t want to give up your hot beverage habit.
Laugh
Find something you enjoy that makes you laugh! When you laugh you release endorphins, and we all know how magical they can make us feel. Make time to catch up with friends or watch a comedy this month. Children laugh so much more than adults, so try and find the fun and silliness in each and every day!
Acts of Kindness
One way to feel better is doing something good for someone else. It’s a lovely feeling knowing your making the world a better place. For example, I regularly support a dog rescue centre in Romania, where I got my little Bella from. It warms my heart knowing the difference it makes for those poor street dogs that are struggling.
Fingers crossed these suggestions will help you if you’re suffering from the January blues! It can be hard to shake out of a low mood but you have to try and cheer yourself up. With a little self-care you will hopefully feel much better and have more energy and motivation again!
