Weekly update

Week 13 of 2022: Our Romanian Rescue Has Arrived

I am very late joining in the weekly update. The reason for my absence is because three of us came down with COVID. I guess I did well lasting almost two years before finally succumbing! I was a little worried being an asthmatic. But it wasn’t too bad really. The worst of it was bad chest pains one evening but other than that it was okay, just being more tired than usual. Maybe the three jabs that helped me or maybe it was just a milder case. My youngest had a high fever for a few days, then he was on the mend. He hasn’t had any jabs as of yet. Plus we have been very busy with the arrival of our Romanian rescue Bella.

Then on top of that it looks like my eldest ended up with food poisoning which was no fun either. Poor thing was quite under the weather. I lost count of the number of times he vomited. Such a shame our mother’s day meal out at a restaurant didn’t go quite to plan.

We finally painted our pottery from our Box42 date experience. We just need to varnish them now. This is my husband’s candle holder.

Bella

We have had Bella our Romanian rescue for two weeks now. She has settled in so well. We were worried how our resident dog would cope but she seems to enjoy having her new companion around. There were a few niggles to begin with, teeth bared etc. However, I had read it can take up to a month for dogs to get along, so I wasn’t disheartened by this. Fast forward a fortnight later and they now play together in the garden and share the same bed (during the day).

Bella has been out for dog walks now and is adjusting well to being on a lead. We waited a full week before attempting her first walk as that is the advice given for settling in Romanian rescues.

We feel so lucky that Bella is very friendly and affectionate and has slotted into our family life with ease. She has also been clean in the house which we weren’t expecting as we thought we might need to toilet train her, so that was a lovely bonus too. She has her cheeky side, like stealing the last of my tea when I wasn’t looking and jumping on our dining table to try and drink the leftover milk in the boys cereal bowls, but we are working on her manners.

Wins

I won £25 on my premium bonds this month which is something. However, I am still holding out for a big win! Also, I have some vegetable seeds coming for my dad from Suttons and a voucher to get a free pizza from Goodfella’s – it all helps! With everything going up in price a little win coming that might enrich our lives adds some much needed fun and excitement right now! Although sometimes I don’t feel like I have the energy to keep entering, I am hoping my efforts will repay me with something more impressive one day.

Cakes

We have been baking a bit more lately, using up some of the packet cake mixes I won a while ago. My husband made us some Easter nests too which the boys quickly demolished. It’s good my son’s appetite is starting to return after being so ill.
