Weekly update

Week 17: Lake Vyrnwy & all the food!

It’s been three weeks since my last update (week 14) but I haven’t quite left it as long as I have done in the past. It must be because I am feeling revived after my trip to Lake Vyrnwy and excited to write about it.

My husband has been working flat out lately. It has been quite stressful. He had to cancel his week off over the Easter. But fortunately, he managed to get a Friday off so we could have a night away. He booked us a balcony room overlooking Lake Vyrnwy. Just look at the view we had.

A Night Away

It was such a relaxing break and what a gorgeous location! Whilst there we ate so much food. But we felt justified as I did drag him on a 12 mile walk around the lake. It took us four and a half hours… so perhaps that part wasn’t quite so relaxing! That day we only saw one other group walking, but plenty more driving round. We did drive around it the following day, feeling a bit smug seeing those starting out on the walk knowing we had already ticked it off!

But the rest of it was, we had tapas for lunch then a delicious dinner. I had the pan fried cod with asparagus risotto! Which I followed with a chocolate fondant.

More Food!

The next day we didn’t leave before trying the afternoon tea. That was quite a fete after a very generous breakfast. They bring a breakfast tray, with fresh juice, fruit pots, toast and croissant each. Then let you pick one hot choice (I went for the Welsh breakfast) and more from the cold choices if you like! I slightly regret not getting the Greek yoghurt, peach compote and granola combo, but it might mean an excuse for a future stay!

It’s no surprise the weighing scales groaned when we returned home.  However, holiday calories don’t count do they! So, I don’t intend to feel guilty. We also did put on some more muscle from our walk and muscle is heavier than fat anyway! So its not all bad.

Lake Vyrnwy Hotel really excel when it comes to the standard of the food. The service was very attentive too. The only downside was the pillows in our room, they didn’t seem very comfortable. It wouldn’t put me off visiting again, I might just pack my own pillow just in case! It’s hard to care about pillows when you have this view, especially feeding the little birds on our balcony.

Community Work

I have been keeping busy in the community with my Co-op job. I have visited a Food Bank and an Art group. I have volunteered in a community garden and helped do some cleaning for a creative space that will be opening soon for everyone to use. The work is very varied, and I love getting my teeth stuck into all the different projects. As a member pioneer I have a lot of freedom to decide how best to approach the role.

Blogging

I have an exciting competition live at the moment to win a £50 Wicked Uncle voucher. So, if you fancy a chance make sure you get your entry in. There hasn’t been that many posts since my last update. But I did write about improving your storage space if you’re a small business. So if space is an issue a quick read might help.

Bella

Bella

We entered Bella in a competition in a cafe. She didn’t win (it was a random draw) but they let us keep the cute picture anyway which was kind of them. They are doing a fancy dress competition next, so I am tempted to get her a little costume. If I do I will make sure I share a photo with you all.

I keep following the rescue (Go Fund A Shelter is the Facebook page) where we got Bella from. I really feel for Romanian dogs some of them have such a hard life. It’s hard not to want to rescue more. But with Bella and her fur sister Summer, plus a budgie and two teenagers I think that’s enough to be getting on with for now.
