So, on day eight of our Las Vegas holiday, we had another trip planned off strip. I booked with Wild West Horseback Adventures with breakfast included through Viator. What I like about Viator is you can cancel quite close to the time of your booking if you need too without losing any money. We haven’t had to yet, but it seems like a good system just in case.

Just make sure when you book you check if you have to do anything such as drop the tour company an email. In the case of this booking with Wild West Horseback Adventures we had to ring up to confirm our pickup arrangements. Due to the traffic because of the Formula 1 preparations our pickup had changed from 7:15am at the Horseshoe.

Early Start At Ceasar’s Palace

Instead, we had an even earlier start, changed to 6:15am at Ceasar’s Palace to meet the minibus to go to the ranch. So, we booked an Uber from our Virgin Hotel as we didn’t fancy walking in the dark. But to be honest early starts didn’t really bother us we seemed to take most of the holiday to get used to the time difference.

Dress For The Weather

That time in the morning it can be quite cold so it’s a good idea to wrap up warm for your Wild West Horseback Adventures.

I had a jumper with me, but I probably could have done with gloves too! One lady came completely ill-prepared in just a t-shirt bless her; she got quite cold. Whilst a couple had jumpers and coats and gloves! I was a bit jealous of their preparation and foresight.

On The Ranch

My horse was called Copenhagen and was a beautiful creature and a gentle soul. Although it really did enjoy trying to eat everything it could find! It would trick me into thinking it wasn’t going to then be full on chomping at it again.

Of all our experiences in Las Vegas I think our horseback adventure might be my favourite. Even beating the Grand Canyon and Hoover Dam. I just really liked being off strip mainly. It gets a bit overwhelming spending all your holiday on the strip. It’s busy, noisy and a little crazy! Out on the ranch it was peaceful and therapeutic and we saw the sun coming up out there.

The two ranch dogs joined us on the ride. One of them jumped up on a horse to have a rest and a good vantage point! Very cute to see.

The lady out with us and the horses was so knowledgeable about critters in the area. We learnt that horses blood has natural anti venom in it for snakebites! It was also tarantula mating season (which is between September to early November) when the males are out and about looking for a partner…

You are provided with a bottle of water (or two if you want) to take out on the ride. In the summer months I bet that staying hydrated out there is even more important.

Breakfast

Our Wild West Horseback Adventures booking came with breakfast included. Our minibus driver was in charge of preparing breakfast whilst we were out riding. We all appreciated coming back to breakfast ready to be served with a hot drink to warm us up. You also got an apple juice each too!

We ate everything but then we aren’t that fussy when it comes to food. It was enjoyable and warm and a decent sized portion, with scrambled eggs, diced potatoes, bacon and a pancake.

I saved a little bit of bacon for the dog that was curled up nearby.

Lassoing

Then we had a go at lassoing. I was hopeless and pretty much caught myself in a tangle! But it was fun to try something different.

Meeting A Bull

Then we got to meet “Mcdaddy” bull and his cow lady friend. It did make it feel more like a Wild West experience!

I would definitely recommend this trip. It cost £320 for the four of us, but we had transport, horse riding, breakfast, the lassoing lesson and meeting a bull included in that price. So, I think it’s reasonable when you can spend quite a lot on the strip attractions which are over and done with very quickly. This was so memorable too for the whole family.
