We had so much fun playing these two games from Big Potato Games. We already have a few games from this company so felt quite confident they would be good having previously enjoyed Colour Brain and Scrawl. With Christmas coming up soon I thought you would all appreciate some more family board game inspiration.

Herd Mentality £20

I would say buy this game for the box alone never mind the contents. The cow print is very tactile, you find yourself wanting to stroke the box! Plus, Big Potato Games have developed a game which is very entertaining. It is aimed for children 10+ and quite simple to get the hang of. I really liked the game pieces. Especially the soft squidgy pink cow playing piece and artwork on the point tokens.

You pick out a card and write down your answer. The questions are quite varied like “How many pairs of shoes should an average person own?” or “Name a fruit that would be hard to juggle”. Everyone then reads out their answers. You win a point for being in the majority or herd. Although if everyone has the same answers then no points are scored that round. If one person’s answer is different to everyone else’s they get given the pink cow. The problem with the pink cow is you can’t win the game when it’s in your possession. So, you need to think like the herd and ditch the pink cow as quick as possible.

It helps in this game to know the other players well. If you do then your more likely to predict how they will react to the question and you can use that information to your advantage. For example, for pizza toppings my husband and eldest will always go pepperoni, whilst my youngest would always pick cheese! If I go for pepperoni, I know I will be in the majority even if its not really my most favourite pizza topping! I am more of a BBQ chicken kind of girl!

The game is very playful, if players are taking too long to come up with an answer all the other players have to moo at them!

Weird Things Humans Search For £20

This game is a little cheeky, you might want to stick to the 14+ age rating! So be warned when playing. Although teens and possibly tweens will think it’s absolutely hilarious! We have played the game with the grandparents too and it is quite funny finding out all the weird things humans search for. Some of the answers might make you blush or have you in fits of giggles! It is quite an eye opener. I could go some rounds without getting any points as I didn’t have a clue what random questions people ask search engines! To be honest I have never played a game quite like this before, so thank you Big Potato Games for the introduction. Part of me is amused by the types of things people search whilst the other part of me is slightly terrified that some people are so clueless!!!

You get the start of a question and then provide two answers (a main one and a bonus one). If you get the top one right with your main answer you get awarded four points.  If its an answer somewhere else in the list, you get two points. Your bonus answer only gets one point regardless of where it is in the list. Here is an example of the questions: “should I let my husband…” (watch game of thrones!) or “can you get a tan from…” (a hair dryer!).

I never do particularly well at this game. However, I still find it quite interesting to play. It surprises me what bizarre things people have searched for. My search history would look rather tame in comparison. So, if you want a game that enlightens this is it!
