Four Ways To Get Fit With Your Kids

Staying in shape is critical to living a healthy life, but more often than we’d like to admit, working out and exercising take a back seat. Everyone works very hard, the hours are long and leisure time is hugely valuable. We don’t want to miss out on spending time with our family because we’re going to the gym to get fit. But what if you could do both? What if you could get in shape and stay healthy while still spending time with your children? What if the kids benefited as well? Wouldn’t that be fantastic? It is possible, and here are some suggestions on how to go about it.

Get Outside

Getting fit and healthy doesn’t always include lifting weights or going for a run. You can take it a little easier and yet get some excellent exercise in. Going for a walk instead of driving is a wonderful place to start. Children spend a significant amount of time strapped into car seats, so wouldn’t it be great if you all got out and about and walked to places instead? You can make a game of it, looking out for things to spot as you walk along.

Or go out to the park a lot more. While the kids are playing, you can be running around the area, getting your steps in. There are dozens of other examples of things you can do just like this that will involve the whole family and don’t require you to do much differently than you’re doing now.

Find A Child-Friendly Gym

If you decide to join a gym, do your homework before just selecting the nearest one or the one that offers the lowest prices. These may not be the best choices in the end. There are family-friendly gyms out there, and these are the ones to search for. These gyms will offer family days with activities for everyone, or they may have children’s courses that they can enjoy while you work out – after that, you can all meet up for a healthy lunch and a recap of how your different sessions went! This is ideal for a little ‘me time,’ which we all need from time to time.

Sporting Events

Organising a weekly sports night may be the solution for super-busy mothers and fathers who want to stay in shape while still spending time with their children. It could be anything; you could even try a different sport every week if that’s your thing. For the more competitive families, you can total the scores and give a prize to the monthly winner. For those who prefer the process to the outcome, just have fun. Swimming, tennis, football, cycling… There are hundreds of activities to pick from, and they will all help you feel better.

Throughout The Home

You don’t even have to leave your home to get fit. Think about the chores that need to be done. Perhaps the garden needs tidying up. If so, spend an hour out there with the kids to make it look nice. You’ll have achieved something, and you’ll be exercising too.

Or why not buy the best Bluetooth speaker for your home, play your favourite music, and dance around with the children? This is exercise, of course, and it’s a way to bond and create some amazing memories. Other ideas include washing vehicles, washing windows, walking the dog, and anything that requires movement.
