Week 50: Lateral Flow Tests and PCR’s

This last week didn’t go quite to plan. My eldest had a positive lateral test so my husband, youngest and I had to go for PCR’s with him. The rest of us were all clear and allowed back into the general population. For as long as our daily lateral flow tests continue to remain negative that is! Fortunately I still had all the lovely memories from my Chester trip to keep me going though.

It has made it harder to get any pictures this week as life has generally been very much focused at being at home with my son whilst having as little interaction as possible with him. He is doing very well; his main symptoms being a headache and sore eyes. He also sleeps a lot more than usual, so I am guessing he is quite fatigued fighting it. He never usually sleeps past 9am usually but lately 11:30am seems more like the norm.

I must admit I was worried how COVID would impact him, but apart from regular doses of Calpol in the first couple of days, he hasn’t needed anything else. It’s good to know that lateral flow tests work though as my eldest wasn’t showing any of the main symptoms of COVID. Regular lateral flow testing does seem a sensible way to stop the spread.

Freedom

We are just keeping our fingers tightly crossed that we continue to remain negative as my eldest’s son’s self-isolation is almost over and we can soon go back to normal life! Hooray. This week I had my booster jab, other than a very sore arm I don’t seem to have had any other side effects. I was worried I might as this time round I had a different vaccine.

Christmas Brownies

I had some tasty Christmas tree brownies delivered which did cheer us all up, you can see them in my feature picture.  I guess it wouldn’t be a normal week in my life if cake didn’t feature in some way! Having said that come January I have made the tough decision to cut back. Fortunately, Christmas calories don’t count so I have free rein until then!

Afternoon Tea

afternoon tea delivery

My husband missed his afternoon tea at work whilst we were waiting on our PCR results, so a kind staff member delivered some to him. On top of what was pictured he also had some pasta and potato salad, so it worked well feeding the four of us that day! It was a nice little bonus and cheered us up. I don’t cope well when confined to the house, I miss social interactions. I am dreading it if we go into another lockdown and back to home-schooling again.

Flapjacks

flapjacks

My mum kindly made us a batch of flapjacks; she is so good like that! It cheered my eldest up especially as her flapjacks are a firm favourite of his. Plus, we all love the thick layer of Cadbury’s chocolate she has on top of them.

Reading

This week I have been enjoying my first delivery from my Willoughby Book Club subscription win. I had Carole Matthews Christmas for Beginners, a charming hardback book and I am loving the festive theme with it being so close to Christmas. Win wise it’s been very quiet this week, but maybe that’s because its so close to Christmas! Hopefully I will see a steady trickle after the holidays! Wishful thinking on my part I know. However, that’s what keeps me motivated to enter.

Blogging

This week I wrote about five of the best UK beach holidays, so if your looking for holiday inspiration for next year do check that out. Then just in time for the festivities I have the blog post about ways you can decorate your home for Christmas.
