Why do 10% of adults grind teeth?

During my last trip to the dentist it was identified that I grind teeth.  Not just a little, quite a lot it would seem. I have worn down my teeth so they are now very smooth.  Rather worryingly it was a considerable amount of damage in quite a short space of time! I had no clue I was doing it either so it must be whilst I slept.

It’s good that I have started going to a dentist again as I went through a stage of having quite a bad phobia of dentists. This would have meant I would have continued in ignorant bliss grinding my teeth. Resulting in potentially more medical problems.

I don’t know why I have suddenly started doing it. No other dentist has ever mentioned it on my yearly checks, so it’s definitely a rather new habit!!! Or perhaps the dentists never mentioned it before. Maybe its time to start finding a better dentist that notices issues straight away, such as best dentist London.

The dentist asked if I was in pain because that’s what generally happens with the constant friction to your poor teeth and jaw! As it happened when he said that I realised I had experienced more headaches and general discomfort recently.

Many people grind their teeth

According to Dentaly I am not alone though, it sounds like 10% of the adult population grind their teeth! So why do we do it? Well stress seems a big factor and I guess I am run ragged with my two boys. I don’t take enough time to relax especially over the summer holidays. When they go to bed I start working on my blog.

I could really do without the expense of buying a guard to stop me grinding my teeth whilst I sleep, as the price the dentist mentioned made me think twice. But if I continue at this rate I won’t have a choice as I need to do something to stop the ongoing damage to my teeth. Luckily for me, and you, you can get your teeth troubles sorted with dentist Bishops Stortford. They offer the best treatment options for enhancing and improving your teeth.

Smokers are more likely to grind teeth

Apparently smokers are five times more likely to grind their teeth. Yet I don’t smoke so at least that’s one factor I can quickly tick off the list! I have been drinking a lot of tea lately. Perhaps the increased intake of caffeine might have played its part. I will have to switch to de-caff to be on the safe side. To be honest my dentist didn’t offer additional advice like this which I would have really appreciated it was just the one suggestion of getting the guard. But I don’t have a huge amount of disposable income to buy one. Therefore I want to see how I fare with other solutions first. Plus I can imagine the look I would get off hubbie when I rock up to bed wearing my guard, romance may well and truly be dead!!!

Others factors that contribute to grinding teeth

Dentaly is a very useful site, because without it I wouldn’t have realised that cutting back on caffeine might help cure my annoying habit, although they do say that 70% of cases are down to stress, so tonight I will go to bed earlier after a nice long bath, maybe some relaxing essential oils and a de-caff tea!!!
