It’s easy to look healthy during the summer. The weather’s beautiful and warm; you feel more inclined to go out into the fresh air and get some exercise and you are more likely to have the glow of a suntan.
But it’s not so easy when the weather gets a little colder and the rain makes an appearance. One way to keep yourself looking healthy all year is to take steps to maintain the good condition of your skin so you don’t fall prey to the dull look that dead cells can cause.
Out with the old, in with the new
With a good exfoliation routine, it’s easy to keep your skin smooth and bright-looking. There are several products that can help to keep your skin in tip-top condition, including mitts, brushes and body or face washes. The best time to exfoliate is during your shower. If you are using an exfoliating wash, it will contain small fragments of an abrasive substance, such as ground peach kernels, which slough off dead cells as you wash. The abrasive surface of a brush or mitt has exactly the same effect and you can buy long-handled brushes or loofahs to allow you to reach everywhere.
Silky and smooth
With clean, clear, freshly exfoliated skin, you will feel smooth and soft, but the only way to keep it like that is to moisturise. Choose the right moisturiser for your skin-type. If you tend to have oily skin, some moisturisers will simply clog up your pores, leading to blackheads and spots, so you should choose a light, non-greasy moisturiser. It’s also a good idea to buy a night-cream, which would be heavier than the moisturisers you might apply in the morning. Don’t forget to moisturise your neck, your hands and rough areas, such as your knees, elbows and heels. If you feel beautiful all over you’ll look better as well.
Give yourself a bit of colour
While pale and interesting has its place in the world, there’s something really healthy looking about a good, even tan. That’s all very well while the sun is still shining but not so good once autumn arrives. But with many great products available, a good looking fake tan is achievable no matter what the weather is like. Although you could pay to have your tan applied at a salon, there are many home applications that are easy to use and give a great result as long as you follow the manufacturer’s instructions.
Protect your beautiful skin
Whether it’s the height of summer or a crisp winter’s day, you should keep your skin safe by applying a suitable sun cream. The potential for harm is still there on a cold day and using a high-SPF cream will keep your skin looking younger for longer, as well as preventing you from contracting a number of dangerous skin conditions.
As well as all the external things you can do to your skin, there are other things you can do for your skin. A healthy diet and plenty of liquids will keep your skin in good condition, because you will be getting the vitamins and minerals you need to keep your skin elastic and to replace damaged cells. Additionally, a good level of exercise improves your circulation, providing a good supply of blood to your skin and giving you a healthy glow.
