Manhattan is New York City ‘s most populated of its five boroughs and packed full of activities for families who are traveling with children. This article will cover some amazing attractions that you will want to experience when with kids in Manhattan.  I would love to revisit New York as my first and only experience wasn’t hugely positive.  You can read about me lost in New York.

Central Park

Central Park is the oldest and most visited urban park in America. A trip to New York City just isn’t complete without a visit to the park. The park is so expansive it covers some 800 plus acres. You will want to set aside an entire day to get the total experience. Central Park pedicabs, horse & carriages and bicycles are available for tours. Attractions inside the park include: Alice in Wonderland statue, the Carousel, Tisch Children’s Zoo, Wollman Rink, the Chess and Checkers House and the Belvedere Castle.

Statue of Liberty

A visit to the Statue of Liberty is both educational and fun for kids in Manhattan. Not only is Lady Liberty one of the most iconic structures in American history, but it is also a national park. For many, New York City is a once-in-a-lifetime trip and this is one attraction you don’t want to miss. If you plan on climbing, children must be at least 48 inches tall.

National September 11 Memorial & Museum

This is another attraction that can be very educational, especially for older children. This is meant to be a place of reflection, with the atmosphere being very quiet and somber. Although, the area isn’t bustling with excitement, many families still choose to visit and pay their respects.

American Museum of Natural History

This is the perfect way to spend the day indoors exploring with children. The American Museum of Natural History is one of the largest of its kind in the world. It is home to an astounding amount of interesting exhibits, including mummies, humpback whales, dinosaurs, native wildlife and ocean life. There are also interactive exhibits that the kids in Manhattan will enjoy.

Rockefeller Center and the Top of the Rock Observation Deck

Rockefeller Plaza is always buzzing with activity. During the holidays, people from around the nation travel to witness the infamous Christmas tree. The winter months are busy with people who flock to the plaza to enjoy ice skating. The Top of the Rock Observation Deck offers a bird’s eye view from the top of the Rockefeller Center. Witnessing the New York Skyline is absolutely breathtaking, even for the little ones.

While these are just a few of the things wonderful Manhattan has to offer, they are 5 things that should be on every family’s travel itinerary.
