Feng shui is about boosting the positive energy in your home.  It can reduce your stress levels and improve your general wellbeing.  It’s something you might have already heard of.  But given these benefits isn’t it worth seeing how you can adapt your home to follow the principles of feng shui.  Don’t we all want to be in harmony with our interiors!

As we are having new bathrooms installed, I have decided to start our Feng Shui journey there.  If you’re wondering how to feng shui your bathroom read on for some top tips!  I have kept it simple as you can overcomplicate feng shui principles.  For example, did you know you shouldn’t have a bathroom in the centre of your house? This is because it’s the heart of the house, so you need to work even harder to make sure it’s a light and beautiful space!

There are lots of suggestions like this.  But if you try and follow the tips below wherever your bathroom is positioned it will be better placed to have good feng shui.

Tidy Bathroom

For us investing in bathroom furniture made a huge difference.  Before this all our shampoo and body wash bottles cluttered up the room.  Now everything is tidily stored out of sight in the sink cupboard.  It has improved the flow of the room.  Your eyes aren’t drawn to the chaos and clutter instead you feel relaxed and peaceful.  A tidy bathroom is also easier to clean, and a big part of Feng Shui is cleanliness and order!

Air Purifying Plants

It’s important to improve the air quality in your home.  Certain plants are well adapted to removing toxins in the air.  I was shocked to read that air pollution indoors is often much worse than that found outside.  We always think of our homes as our safe havens.  But they can be quite dangerous.  So, choose air purifying plants like the Peace Lilly, which NASA highly recommend.  This plant removes pollutants from cleaning products.

Colour Choice

If you want help choosing the perfect feng shui colour read the linked article.  I found it interesting that many bathrooms are painted white, but the article suggests that in terms of feng shui that colour can be quite sharp.

But don’t worry if you are not ready to repaint your whole bathroom you could always add some artwork instead.

Artwork

Feng shui is made up of five elements fire, wood, water, metal and earth.  If you do decide to add some artwork try and pick out a piece that covers one of these elements.  Apparently doing so will increase the elemental energy of the room.  Driftwood or the ocean is a good theme for bathrooms.

Close the Bathroom Door

The Chinese associate water with wealth and as the water leaves through the bathroom you want to close the door to minimize the impact.  Likewise, the toilet seat should also be down!  Maybe this is why I am permanently broke as the boys NEVER put the toilet seat down… (something worth considering anyway!).  I think I need to stop day dreaming about glamorous bathrooms and sort out my feng shui instead!
