Let’s be honest the blogging world is saturated right now.  There were far fewer blogs when I first started out over eight years ago.  It’s harder than ever before to get noticed by brands.  You need to do everything you can to look slick and professional.  One way you can up your game is by using backdrops.

A backdrop can save time editing photos because it already makes it look so much better!  I would love to develop my editing skills.  But in the meantime, a decent backdrop can work wonders.  When it comes to backdrops, you can go down the DIY route or invest in buying backdrops.

DIY Backdrops

I guess I could feel quite amateurish as up until now I have made do with a few offcuts from when we had our new ensuite installed, a bit of flooring and shower board.  Whereas other bloggers have ordered proper backdrops.  But you can work with what you have already, just look around your house and see what fabric, paper or vinyl items you own already!  I guess I do make a habit of doing my own thing when it comes to blogging.

Physical Locations

Some places make for amazing backdrops.  If you see a wall you like go for it, try it out for a photo!

Some places are so pretty.  I think the Love Heart Booth from this article looks incredible!  Once you have checked your house thoroughly, step outdoors and see if you can find inspiration elsewhere.  Unleash your creative side and see what you can come up with!

Buying Backdrops

There are lots of sites dedicated to selling them these days.  I think 2020 I might have to invest a bit of money on blogging materials.  You always need to look at ways to continue to encourage visitors to your site and engagement on your social feed.  The right backdrop can really make your photos pop!

If you don’t fancy going down the DIY route with backdrops two sites you can try are Foxbackdrop and Clot Studio.  Fox backdrop help you capture the most valuable photos.  I like vinyl backdrops best of all but a canvas backdrop can work very well too.

First check out reviews from people who have already ordered to make sure the backdrops are good quality!  I have seen some reviews on eBay about wrinkled backdrops that looked a complete mess.  I think its probably better to have no backdrop than use a wrinkled one like that!

Aim For Something Unique

If you want something a bit different Clot Studio have fine art canvas that make an interesting backdrop.  One backdrop site is so popular with bloggers the danger is you can end up having very similar themes, so it can sometimes pay to shop somewhere else if you are worried about individuality.

If you can try and pick out glare-free matte finishes which will help your photos look their best.  I tend to work round the glare on my piece of shower board, so I really need to order some of these soon!  It would make my life as a blogger less challenging if I had the right equipment from the get-go.

Easy To Clean

Vinyl is a good option as its easy to keep clean.  You want a backdrop that is durable and will last.  Fabrics can also be washed and ironed.  Paper can look great but can soon become worn and faded.
