Loft Conversion Bedroom Ideas for your Teenager
You’ve got through the tantrums, the tears and the telling-offs. But now you’ve reached the next phase – the teenage years. Notorious for their inability to be happy with anything their parents do. It can be hard to get things right raising a teenager! Especially when it comes to their personal space, including their bedrooms. Sometimes, the space they have been growing up in for all those years is suddenly too small. Then it can be hard to know what to do! But how do you make it feel like a room fit for your teenager? Here are a couple of loft conversion bedroom ideas to inspire you!
A loft conversion is one of the best ways to introduce more space to your home. A loft conversion is perfect for when your little ones grow up and need their own zone to be in while they figure everything else out. Whether you pick a rear dormer or a mansard loft conversion, typically you can have both a bedroom and an ensuite in your loft space.
Making The Most Of The Space
They key element for a teenager’s room is space, as much as you can allow. This allows them to have space for any mood they are in! A double bed if they are crashing out, a desk to do work on, and room to keep any equipment for hobbies. In this loft conversion we built, there is a space for each of these things, with space for a budding musician to practice and escape the stress of young life.

Incorporating Skylights
Another great aspect of having a loft conversion for your teenager is the lighting you can get from skylights. Teenagers are stereotypically very tired, either from schoolwork, sports or a busy social life. So having a boost in the mornings from lots of natural light can be a great way of making sure they are up in time for their day. If you don’t have skylights, don’t fret, because you can use droplights to add more light into the space.

Colour Choice
If you want a space for them to feel like an adult, then using bold colours can be great to make a room feel more solid and bold. Using dark colours to contrast with light colours, is a nice way to add texture to the room, which can lend towards this ambience of an adult bedroom. Typically, kids’ rooms are focused around one colour, a pink or a blue for instance, without any contrast.

Photographs
Adding photographs to a room can help to make an otherwise plain room interesting and personal. This can be nice for teenagers, who as much as they would like to push home away from them to be independent, allows them to have their closest memories with them. They can be subtle as a backdrop behind a desk. Alternatively in photo frames on a bookshelf so that they don’t need to be overwhelming and encroaching on their independence. My eldest son liked picking out Posterlounge prints which is another great way for teens to personalize their rooms. They can pick out what really interests them, in the case of my son that’s usually airplanes, fast cars and sharks.
Wardrobe
Of course, depending on your teenager, the biggest area to develop will most likely be their wardrobe! A great way to assist with the management of this is to install a large wardrobe or walk-in wardrobe in their bedroom. This way, they can start to organise their clothing and (hopefully!) do their own washing! For your teenager, a space to play around with make-up and their style can help them to find how they want to express themselves, comfortably. Creating these safe spaces for them to experiment is incredibly important in these teenage years.

There are lots of ways to decorate a teenage loft conversion bedroom. But these were just a handful of tips we have picked up from many years of designing and building loft conversions!
