Why Wood Flooring Is A Better Choice
We have wood flooring throughout our house. But now it’s cold it is freezing on my poor feet! So, I thought I would remind myself of all the reasons I LOVE wood flooring. Which will hopefully keep me going through this cold spell. If you have ever been tempted to make the swap from carpets but have “cold feet” about it, read on why wood flooring is actually a great choice.
Quick To Clean
Cleaning wooden floors is quick and easy. It’s worth bearing in mind that Engineered Wood Flooring are more resistant to temperature changes and are moisture resistant, so need less maintenance than real wood floors. A simple mop round and you cut back on allergens that would become airborne and cause problems to your health. If we had downstairs carpet, I dread to think what condition it would now be in. With a mucky dog and two boys who often spill their drink living without carpets is better for my stress levels!
Carpets Hold Dust
As an asthmatic I am very aware that carpet can hold onto animal dander (we have a dog) and dust mites. Then when you hover you unsettle everything and breathe it in. Since we went carpet free my asthma has been much easier to manage. I don’t think it’s a coincidence as nothing else has changed. Even with regular hovering carpets can really harbour those allergens. My eldest son used to be asthmatic, but the doctors have given him the all clear now!
Carpets Hold Odour
Not only do they hold allergens carpets also hold onto smells! Wet dog can be particularly tricky to shift. You can avoid that completely with wood flooring!
Harsh Chemicals
Carpets are sometimes made with synthetic products containing chemicals that can impact your health. They can become a gas at room temperature that you breathe in. That new carpet smell can be those chemicals so make sure you air the room well before settling in. However, some engineered wood flooring brands can contain formaldehyde glue. You do need to do your research and pick out flooring that is non-toxic. But there are plenty of choices out there.
Wood Flooring Is More Durable

Carpets can soon look tired and worn. Engineered wood flooring is much more durable and designed to last considerably longer. It works out cheaper installing wood flooring as it does not need to be replaced as often. Our master bedroom flooring still looks as good as the day my husband installed in.
