Week 23 of 2020: Birthday and Bees
I felt much better week 23 of 2020. Last week my mood had dipped so this week we took a break from home-schooling. It was nice to have one less battle to deal with. Boys seem happy enough to resume next week too now they have had some time off! Which is a bit of a bonus.
Bike Ride

I am not one to do things by halves when I decide to try something. This week we went for a bike ride. I have not been on my bike in ages, so instead of starting gradually we opted for a 22-mile bike ride. I won’t lie I felt a bit saddle sore after, and my legs ached. But it felt good to be out in the fresh air for so long. We stopped for ice creams halfway which helped give us enough energy for the return journey!
Rescuing Bees

I have been rescuing bees again. They really love some sugar diluted in a little water just to give themselves a quick energy boost to make it back to the hive. This bee once it was refreshed was happy to fly off. Bees are so important its good to show them kindness, we rely on them for pollination. They are very gentle creatures. I love how their long tongue comes out from under them to drink.
Happy Post

My sister in law sent us a little pocket hug in the post which was a nice pick me up!
Reviewing
This week we reviewed the Mölkky game. It was nice to have a game to play outdoors. Our house is packed full of board games but little in the way of outdoor entertainment so we welcomed that particular review. Although we do need the good weather to return.
Camping

We camped out one night this week in our garden. It felt like a mini holiday. We all felt revived for doing something different! We toasted marshmallows for s’mores, lit sparkles and watched a movie outdoors. The boys also had silly string and went a little crazy with those! We have glow sticks left so I have a fun activity planned with those for again.
Birthday

My eldest turned 13 this week. It’s official we have a teen in the house! I think in lockdown you overcompensate when it comes to birthdays! You feel under more pressure than usual to make it a good one. Thankfully, he had a lovely day. He was really pleased with all his presents. Plus we went to a sweet shop, had takeaway lunch AND dinner, and visited my parents in their garden for cake! We bought cakes from Sponge and oh my they were so good! I am sure we will order from them again soon. This is their rocky road cake, we still have a chocolate orange one to eat! I better have another big bike ride soon to offset some of the calories.
We don’t have much planned next week but hopefully we will think of something else to make lockdown interesting.

Happy Birthday to your son! Welcome to the club of being a mother of a teen! I’m very impressed by the 22 mile bike ride – I’d have been so sore after that.
I am glad you are feeling better after a little break from home schooling.
Wow! That is an epic bike ride. I bet you were sore afterwards. It sounds like fun though.
The little pocket hug is very cute.
Happy birthday to your eldest. That looks like a yummy cake. x
Happy Birthday to the teen, glad the boys enjoyed their week off and are fresh for school work this week. Camping in the garden sounds fun. Wow to 22 mile bike ride. I seem to be rescuing a lot of bees or just the same bee many times lol
I am so jealous of all that cake! I have already gone up a dress size just looking at that pic! 😉 That is such an amazing capture of a bee, they are certainly out in force at the moment. I hadn’t considered the sugar water, but the next time I see a bee in peril, I know what to do!
You are so brave getting out there camping, I’d miss my own bed too much but messing around with silly string sound so much fun… not as fun as toasting marshmallows though 🙂 Nom nom nom! Bless your SIL sending you a little pick me up through the post, how lovely is that? I’m reliant on Amazon cheering us up at the moment! 🙂 Sim x
Happy birthday! Cake looks good! I know what you mean about overcompensating. Felt bad the eldest had to celebrate her 14th in lockdown!
Not heard of Mollky before. Looks interesting.
22 miles after not cycling for a while is a lot!
Happy Birthday to your son. It is quite a milestone, isn’t it? Welcome to the club of being a mother of a teen. I’m very impressed by the 22-mile bike ride. I’m not sure I’d even manage 1 mile xx
Happy belated birthday to your teen.
That was a good bike ride, well done, and nice you all enjoyed it, an ice cream would help.
I got a little pocket hug from DD1 and the kids as well, though mine is different
Lovely amazing photographs!! Awesome to go out on a bike ride together! Very true, after watching Bees I realized how dependent we are on them and how much we should be thankful for them. Awww cute hug. Camping sounds fun, I’ve yet to try out s’mores. Happy birthday to your son! The cake looks amazing!
Blimey, 22 miles ! Very impressive ! I’m not surprised you had leg ache afterwards ! The cake looks great. It’s Pierre’s birthday next month so I should start getting organised. I don’t think I’ve ever seen a bee’s tongue before !
Happy birthday young man, hope you had a great day. 22 miles is inpressive, we only normally manage about 6-7, but the kids have little legs LOL
A 22-mile bike ride is quite a way to start having not been for a bike ride in ages! Well done for managing it. Love the pocket hug, what a lovely thing for your sister-in-law to send you. Camping in the garden sounds like fun – we keep meaning to do that at some point. Glad your eldest enjoyed his birthday. #project366
Lol 22 miles is a good starting point! We camped out a couple of weeks ago and it was really nice and felt like we had gone away. Glad to hear your mood has improved and that your eldest enjoyed his birthday. I think ups and downs are normal at the moment. Hope you had another great week x
Your boys are so handsome! Happy belated birthday to your elder son!
That was one long bike! Glad you stopped for an ice cream. The bee photo is amazing. I love watching the bees in our garden.
Camping in the garden sounds fun, especially toasting the marshmallows.
Busy times for you all! Birthdays in lockdown feel strange but we’ll certainly remember them! #project366
