Week 15 of 2021: Lots of Gardening This Week
This week I caught up with a friend and went on a long walk which was lovely! I managed to do over 20k steps too which is always a bonus. I had been eating healthy but after being sent my tempting Earth & White Bread Box I did indulge in a couple of their fabulous pancakes complete with Banoffee spread I had lurking in the fridge! It was worth every calorie! But I was glad that I had those extra steps on my walk. It stopped me feeling quite so guilty for falling off the wagon already. Also given how much gardening I have done this week, surely that means I am justified having a few extra treats.
I didn’t take many photos this week. Saturday it was back to the library to stock up on books again. Then we bought my eldest new school shoes as he had outgrown his old ones. Followed by the big two-weekly food shop. I prefer when the weekend has a bit more fun in it but sometimes you have to tick off the chores. Plus I am glad the cupboards and fridge are full again. Fortunately, the boys didn’t have any homework so we could relax in that respect.
Gardening
We spent Saturday early evening and Sunday doing some gardening. My garden is out of control. The ivy really is taking over, and I noticed brambles are making themselves at home too! So, my youngest and I spent hours trying to get to grips with it. I have so much green waste now, multiple piles dotted around the garden including ones as big as my youngest.

We did tackle the ivy at the other side of the house last summer. It’s still looking good on those walls without it so fingers crossed the effort we are putting in now will pay off eventually. The garden is certainly starting to look better.
My neighbours have such beautiful gardens I think we have to try and make ours that bit tidier. Although my poor arms are covered in scratches from the brambles, it might be time to invest in some longer gardening gloves to protect my skin. I never thought I would find gardening interesting, but now I am googling best ways to treat roses with green aphids or how to use white vinegar to get rid of ivy. With us having a dog I don’t want to use any chemical weedkillers.
Friendly Neighbour
A few days before my neighbour had kindly popped over and from a distance gave me a bit of a gardening masterclass. Basically, letting me know which were plants and which were weeds. I didn’t realize I even had a few things in my garden like honeysuckle. Now I know what it looks like I am more careful thinning out the borders.
I also told my neighbour how I liked the pretty pink flowers on one plant. She then asked if I had ever smelt it! Well it actually smells of cats wee. So I think I will continue to admire it from afar!

Constant Companion
Our dog enjoys being out in the garden with us. She watches what I do then tries to help in her own way.

She usually starts pulling out greenery with her mouth or digging in the soil. Most the time its actually plants I had hoped to keep rather than weeds. However, I do love her enthusiasm and the fact she is determined to chip in and do her bit. She is a good girl.
Blogging

My youngest was so pleased we were gifted a Swingball Pro to review, which will hopefully feature in the next couple of weeks. We already have the Swingball Classic but the pro has a few added features that enhance play.

Swingball! loved that as a child. I don’t envy you the bramble, I had enough of an issue getting g rid of all the ivy in our garden last year #365
Well done with the walking! I should really get something to count my steps. I have walked loads over the last couple of weeks.
It sounds like you did really well clearing the garden. Your dog does sound like a willing helper. hehehe
We have a swing ball set and my girls love it. It’s great exercise too. x
Long walks and gardening are a good excuse for some extra treats! That is quite an impressive green waste pile! I’m the same with gardening – never thought I’d find it interesting but I quite enjoy it now. How lovely to have a neighbour who can give you some advice. My mother-in-law tends to be my port of call for that. I love that your dog likes to help even if she does go for plants you want to keep! Swingball Pro sounds interesting. #project365
Good efforts with the garden. I love flowers, but I’m not interested in gardening at all, so ours is just a wall with flowers (when they eventually grow) and grass. We loved swingball as children. We got through quite a few of them, but they were more substantial than the one we had for N. It just never felt very stable.
I remember swingball from my own childhood but like the idea of a pro one! Not going to go anywhere near a flower that smells of wee! #project365
The boys have also been playing with a swingball! Wow you have been busy in the garden, we also have some clearing to do in an area which I am planning on starting soon.. (keep putting it off). Sounds like you have a very knowledgeable neighbour!
Love how the dog is joining in with the gardening. My cat and dog do they same but prefer to just lie in the freshly turned soil. A weed is only an unwanted plant or a plant in the wrong place, but in my opinion Ivy is nuisance and needs removing especially when it clings to the brick work. There are quite a few plants that have a very strange smell to them
I love swingball, the kids broke the last one so I need to get a new one. My grandpa was a whizz in the garden, sadly it didn’t rub off on me – I do love honeysuckle
It sounds like you had a good week in the garden. I have no idea about gardening. It is nice of your neighbour to give you some advice #365
