Week 4 of 2021: Started Painting
This week my husband started painting the landing ceiling. It already looks so much brighter with its mist coat.
Applying a mist coat is what you need to do first with newly plastered walls. It is just a coat of watered-down emulsion paint. He still has so much more painting to do bless him, but he doesn’t get a lot of free time as work is so busy.
Pitta Pizzas
We cheated this week as we had leftover homemade tomato sauce, so we picked up some pitta bread and made pitta pizzas. It was really easy compared to us usually making the bases from scratch. We just added the sauce and toppings then popped them into the oven for 12 minutes on 170C. I think we do prefer completely homemade that bit more, but this convenient option still beats frozen pizza!
Framing Our Jigsaw
The Mod Podge Puzzle Saver I ordered finally arrived. So, we glued together my son’s jigsaw. I was a little worried when we were applying the white glue as it was making the jigsaw hard to see. But fortunately, it dried clear like it promised, and the jigsaw looked lovely framed. You just need to apply a generous coat leave it 20 minutes and do the same on the other side. Take extra care making sure you get plenty of glue into all the grooves of the jigsaw pieces.
Kindness
This week one of our lovely neighbours left everyone in our little group a bunch of Welsh daffodils on their doorstep. She wanted it to be a sign of hope that spring and better times are on their way. I thought it was such a kind gesture and it really cheered us up. She even left my boys some chocolate each. So my boys have done well what with all the chocolate they had from another neighbour in my last weekly update. Little acts of kindness make all the difference right now. I sent my in-laws a box of cakes to lift their spirits and my parents have a little something coming in the post.
Fresh Air
I have been getting my boys out for some daily fresh air. I think we need it to break up all the screen time home-schooling. Being stuck in all the time is wearing thin now. It’s hard to keep staying chipper. I think even our dog is finding it hard to get motivated, she is far too cosy as you can see in my feature picture to want to venture out in the cold! I think its become a lot colder lately, I really can’t get warm.
Blogging
A few more giveaways went live on my blog this week, I have the Ticket To Ride Europe Game, three craft books and a fantastic fact book about Space. I plan to get my valentines gift guide live in the next couple of days, it will include a few more giveaways so make sure you look out for that! Plus I need to spend some time sorting out our other blog Hubby Helps.

The paint looks good. Don’t envy him having to do all that though. We love that kind of pizzas – I normally use naan bread – super quick and easy in a couple of minutes too! #365
I’ve never thought to do home-made pizza with pitta bread bases. I’ll have to remember that one. The framed jigsaw looks good. How lovely of your neighbour to leave daffodils on everyone’s doorstep and some chocolate for your boys. It’s good to get out for some fresh air each day – we’re not getting outside as much as I’d like but we do all feel better when we do manage some outdoor time. #project365
The paint work is looking good! Homemade pizza sounds very tasty. Agree with you on the frozen pizza, it’s always burnt and soggy at the same time. My guys love Domino’s, but it costs an arm and a leg, even with all the deals applied.
I forgot all about Mod Podge. Many years ago, when I was very much into scrapbooking and cardmaking, I remember how popular it used to be with crafters.

I did not know you could get puzzle saver. I’ve a very small complicated puzzle that I have been putting off but now I know I could frame it I will start it. We have been trying to fit in DIY at the weekends and it takes up so much time so feel the pain over the landing. But it will look great once it is done. Well done for taking the boys out daily I wish we could it makes such a difference to their sleeping habits.
Not heard of a mist coat although I’ve done just that before (watered down paint for the first coast) and I’m now racking my brains to think what I’d call it.I know what you mean about struggling with motivation and needing to get out. I just wish the weather was a bit better.
What a lovely gesture from your neighbour. I think spring will bring hope with it. I love pitta pizza’s I will have to add them into our meal plans. They will need to be tested on our fussy eaters first! I love the framed puzzle. If we ever get a bigger house I want to frame some of mine. Getting out is very important. I put that as a priority over home learning some days #365
I’ve never glued a puzzle before as I enjoy re-doing them but I remember my grandad doing it. Love pitta pizzas, the kids ahve made them at Beavers over a campfire. #project365
The daffodils are a lovely touch as is the chocolate. I’ve not been able to send gifts this visit due to isolating but have received some gin and chocolates through the post, they really do help. The pizzas look fab. I’ve had to do a lot of that typ[e of painting over the years with bare plaster, it’s time consuming but totally necessary
oh the pitta pizzas were a good idea. Might try that next time have some sauce left over.
Never thought to frame my jigsaws…might do that to one of mine.
If we couldn’t get out I think I would go stir crazy. Good luck with painting the hall, I really need to start decorating ours but I am waiting for warmer weather so we can fling the doors open
